Awards and Reading Lists

Texas 2x2 Reading List

Recommended books for children age 2 to grade 2 to encourage voluntary reading; a Texas Library Association Children's Round Table project.

 

Texas Bluebonnet Awards

Each year, 20 books are chosen by students for the Texas Bluebonnet Award List. Schools and libraries around the state participate in the program, encouraging students to read a minimum of five books from the list.

 

 

Texas Topaz Reading List

The Texas Topaz Reading List provides children, teens, and adults with recommended nonfiction titles that stimulate reading for pleasure and personal learning. Titles here are from the Youth portion of the list.

 

Tejas Star Reading List

The Tejas Star Reading List provides a recommended recreational reading list to encourage children ages 5-12 to explore multicultural books and to discover the benefits of bilingualism and multilingualism.

 

Little Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List

The Little Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List is a recommended reading list designed for children in grades K-5. The purpose of the list is to encourage students to explore a variety of current graphic novels.

 

Caldecott Awards

The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the American Library Association's Association for Library Service to Children to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

 

Coretta S. King Awards

This award recognizes outstanding books by African American authors and illustrators. The award encourages the artistic expression of the African American experience via literature and the graphic arts. Selection may include titles for teens.

 

Newbery Awards

The Newbery Medal is awarded annually by the American Library Association's Association for Library Service to Children to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

 

Pura Belpre Awards

The Pura Belpré Award is presented annually to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience. Titles here are from the selection for children.
